Two words. It’s what Jesus
said at the beginning of his three-year ministry, and it was a part of the
closing communication he left with the Apostle Peter.
“Follow me.”
His closest companions spent three years trying to figure him out, but his
invitation and instructions were clear… “Follow me.”
Following into the storm. Following into the face of cultural friction.
Following into the broken lives of frightened people. Following into the
synagogue. Following into the homes of flamboyant sinners. Following into
intense opposition. Following into unconstrained worship.
And now, with uncertainty as our dial-tone. His words alone. “Follow me.”
The command of Jesus wasn’t… “figure me out”, it was “follow me.”
Following into the global chaos.
Not following to avoid turmoil, but into the mess with a message.
A simple instruction in a complex world.
Oswald Chambers puts it this way… “Faith never knows where it is being led, but
it loves and knows the One Who is leading.”
Not a journey toward certainty, but a journey with Jesus.
“No matter how much we know, we don’t know enough to know what Jesus is going
to do next.” (Eugene Peterson)
Faith to follow. Faith without fear. Faith for today.
“Follow me.”
“Follow me.”
