“Dear TSA –
Thanks so much for asking for my feedback. I saw the invitation to communicate while going through security at Washington Dulles Airport. It really made me feel good that you cared enough to ask for some feedback from me.
Wow, where do I start?
Just this week I’ve been reminded about how difficult life can be. I have a friend whose wife had a terrible asthma attack and she’s now in dire condition… certainly this weighs on my heart. I’ve got family members that are battling cancer, close friends who are fighting for their marriages, other friends that ache for rebellious kids.
Oh, yes, we also have begun our Youth for Christ camp season. This week we had a couple hundred middle school kids convene in Michigan for a week that changes everything. I got reports late last night that showed that God really moved. It was wonderful to hear. Frankly, it shows just how powerful, loving and redemptive God is.
And while I’m on the subject of God… I am so awe struck by what it means to love and follow Jesus. It’s as though every day His grace and mercy are new. That stirs my soul and ignites my heart. Just this morning I read about God’s patience, His mystery, His glory and His incredible willingness to extend His abounding love. That’s especially sweet to me today when I think about how selfish, and proud, and preoccupied, and filled with worry, and full of it that I can be. Do you know what I’m talking about? God is amazing.
Which reminds me, I was in Washington to spend time with a dear friend who is working to strengthen his local church. It’s a big church with a big heart for the city of Washington, D.C. They wanted my input on several things and I was thrilled to help. Actually, I was thrilled to sit in a room with fourteen other people who believe that God hasn’t given up on His plan of transformation. People who believe that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. People who believe that when we live in the light, people are attracted to Christ in us… our hope of glory. Yikes, sounds a bit like I’m preaching; sorry about that. Can’t really help it though.
Just to wrap up this feedback (and once again, thanks TSA for asking), I realize in new ways that God cares deeply about us. My friends who are sick or wounded or devastated or discouraged. He cares deeply about sheep that wander, and coins that are lost, and children that are still a long way off (you can find these great stories in Luke 15). He cares about middle schoolers in Michigan and political big shots in Washington, D.C. He rescues us!
So TSA, in closing. My feedback is simply this… I can never be far from the presence of God. Whether that’s in a cab on the way to the airport with a young man driving who just came here from Peru, or when I’m hiking through the breathtaking foothills of the Rocky Mountains. God is with me. He’s with us. And He loves and cares for us. Wow. Simply Wow.
One last thing… see if you can encourage your agents to smile more. God loves you. Dan
P.S. – Maybe I copied down the URL incorrectly, but the web address you gave doesn’t work either. You might want to check into that. Thanks.”
