It’s Official

by DanWolgemuth on May 31, 2013

At 10am Mountain Time this morning, a judge confirmed what God ordained.  The mystery of life will unfurl in full delight as the legal system catches up with the velocity of love.

Naomi Wolgemuth… with DNA unlike any other Wolgemuth in the family, and yet so perfectly crafted and so sovereignly placed in the expectant, strong, and tender arms of Andrew and Chrissy.

It was a phone call and not contractions that introduced sweet Baby Girl to our family last July.  It was clear from the beginning that our lives and our hearts would never be the same.

And with this little girl came unfettered celebration and joy, and – more importantly – a theology lesson.  For in this adoption, God provides a glimpse into His heart of love, of sacrifice, of vulnerability.

Jesus, God’s only begotten…
Jesus, God’s DNA-laced offspring…
Jesus, very God…
Jesus, our Savior and brother.  With full privileges and obligations.

God made a way for a very large family.  In the courthouse of human justice, God declared that we are His through the ransomed price of His son, our brother.  We are God’s children.  His adopted ones.  His loved ones.  His redeemed ones.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are…” [1 John 3:1]

“… for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.” [Galatians 3:26]

Every benefit.
Every blessing.
Every right.
Every honor.

The sound of the gavel simply confirms.

Family.

A picture of eternity.

A snapshot of grace and mercy.

With this snapshot I also get a more fully formed view of the heart of God.  For in this adoption I find joy unleashed.  I learn that as His adopted child I can bring Him delight… I can bring Him pleasure.

My obedience affirms what His mercy secured… I am His, and He is mine.

Sweet everlasting joy.

In a child.  Through a child.  With a child.

Lessons from our Father.

In the courtroom, where justice must rule… God signs my birth certificate with the blood of Jesus.

Family.  It’s official.

What a perfectly articulated, beautiful post. Thank you for sharing this–as one adopted into the kingdom, AND as a proud Grandpa. We’ve been so blessed to watch your entire family walk faithfully through this process!
