I’ve Proved Him Over and Over

Trust is the gateway to intimacy. It is the currency in the marketplace of authentic relationship. Trust invites courage and assaults fear. Trust trades on the equity of integrity.

I am desperate to trust… but unreliable in delivery.

In 1882 Louisa Stead poured the spotlight of trust on the only dependable source:

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

     Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
     How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
     Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
     Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

 Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

In a world of broken promises, of heightened selfish agendas, of polarizing platforms, and bloated egos… my trust in Jesus finds an anchored hold.

Over and over I prove that He is trustworthy. Over and over I prove that His word is reliable and durable and solid.

My companion. My rock… to the very end.

Precious Jesus. Sacrificial Savior. Faithful friend.

My grip wanes on all but Him.

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. (Proverbs 30:5)

Over and over and over… oh for grace to trust you even more.

We do well to make sure that those who seek to cling to us find their hand in His. Jesus.

To the end. In the end. Always.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. (Psalm 20:7)

His name; our sure hope.

Trust.
