Okay, so Prince William isn’t a king… not yet, but he most certainly is getting married, and the effort of his country and the focus of the world swirl around this historic event. The preparation has been meticulous on every front. Westminster Abbey is ready. The groom is ready. And the bride… yes, the bride is ready too.
Over and over I’ve heard that Kate Middleton is a commoner. Just a regular woman who has a date with destiny. She’s lovely to be sure, but without a royal pedigree. And in the storyline we catch a glimpse of glory, of eternity, of forever.
It is in this grand commitment that we snatch a glance at the unfolding story of Revelation 19. Of a king… of The King… who awaits His bride. He encountered her out of obedience to His Father, but He will marry her out of incomparable love. He redeemed her, rescued her, reconciled her… because this was His mission; but He will marry her to consummate His perfect love.
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
~ Revelation 19:6-7 (ESV)
William and Kate will enjoy a costly celebration… but this will be infinitesimal in comparison to the cost of the divine celebration to come. Blood bought what treasure could not.
Yes, the King is getting married. The date is a mystery; the groom is certain; and the bride… she is still growing up, still maturing, still preparing to be a bride; preparing to be The Bride. But make no mistake, the King plans on marrying a beautiful bride. There will be no hint of indiscretion, no possibility of infidelity… pure and sweet will be this marriage. The groom is powerful and brilliant and courageous and loyal and tender and creative and extravagant and passionate… for His bride; for a commoner with no royal pedigree.
Jesus came to earth out of love for His Father… He will come again because He loves His Church.
First as our ransom… now as our groom.
And because we are His Church; because we are His Bride… we draw near, to Him and to each other. In unity we coalesce to become what He redeemed us to be. We come together in love and sacrifice and hope… to be the most beautiful bride to ever walk an aisle. Because He’s the King. Because His love begets pure love…
The Body of Christ becomes the Bride of Christ.
And our Father, who knows us as righteous, and lovely, and pure walks us to our King.
Then incomparable joy. A feast of unknown proportion. And a forever of peace.
Yes, the King is getting married.
