Echoing Praises to Our King

by DanWolgemuth on November 13, 2015

Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!

You are amazing, God. I cry out your name and I shout it out loud. It erupts from my soul. Praise you.

Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done…

When I’m likely to take credit for something you have done, I remind myself that it is by your power and strength that anything and everything gets done. Forgive me for shining the light on myself when it rightly belongs on you.

Tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared above all gods. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place.

Day to day. Hour by hour. Your glory radiates. In the middle of the chaos, you are God. Above all. In all. Through all. Majestic and powerful.

Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth; yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!”

King David understood who was reigning in power and might. I may be confused at times, but there is no mistaking that God has the world in His mighty grip. In this I rejoice. In this I find comfort.

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth.

Creation forms a choir. I want to join the bass section right next to the trees of the forest. Sing with me.

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

Forever… and then some more. Because He is good. Because His love surrounds us, and not just for a season, but forever. He promised. Forever.

Then all the people said, “Amen!” and praised the LORD.

Amen. Oh yes King of Glory. Amen.

From the deepest portion of my heart, from the confusion and frustration and worry and pain and joy and celebration and mystery, and uncertainty…

Spontaneous thanksgiving. To the King. To the God who is worthy of all the praise we can muster.

Oh give thanks. And all the people said…

(Selections from 1 Chronicles 16:8-36)
