“Do we still have it?”

by DanWolgemuth on April 5, 2012

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah   (Psalm 46:1-3ESV)

“The willingness to feel awe. Do we still have it? It’s easy to lose while we’re moving ahead with our lives.”

With these sentences the newColoradotourism campaign starts. The video footage is magnificent, the music is rich – but it’s the language, the narrative, the invitation that is most compelling and powerful.

The willingness to feel awe.

A snow covered peak. Pristine water. Rushing rivers. Rugged summits. Protected meadows and fragile flowers.

Awe. Real awe?

“Do we still have it?”

For God? For the Creator? For unapproachable glory?
For the manifold love of a Savior?
For the scandal of grace?
For the rough hewn beams that held our Lord?
For the ransom paid?
For the ridicule?
For the pain endured?
For the forgiveness extended?
For the gentleness of Spirit?
For the urgency?

For Jesus?

I can see the mountains. I live inColorado. I understand that the more I explore, the more I marvel; the more unbelievable, the more wonderful.

I embrace Jesus. I am His child. I understand that the more I search, the more I treasure; the more I know, the more there is to know; the more I make of Him, the more dependent I become on Him.

Awe… yes, real awe. I still have it!

For Jesus! His –

Calling.
Anointing.
Perfection.
Power.
Compassion.
Ministry.
Courage.
Passion.
Obedience.
Atonement.
Victory.
Love.
Glory.

Awe. Real awe.

The beauty and majesty and power of creation simply serve to usher us to our front row seat of awe.

Jesus – the spotless son of God. Begotten not made. Sinless.

God in the flesh. God with us.

Lamb. Lion.
Servant. King.
Carpenter. Creator.
Sacrifice. Victor.

That Jesus should love a soul like mine. That He would extend His love while I rebelled.

Marvelous awe.

“The willingness to feel awe. Do we still have it? It’s easy to lose while we’re moving ahead with our lives.”

Mountains tremble.

At the name of Jesus.

“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
(Psalm 46:10)

Awe.

Easter.
